Why learn to swim?

Scenic shot of the beach with waves hitting the rocks.

Do you know how to swim? If not, here’s why you should learn.

Drowning. We all know about it, but do you know how fast the process is? Well, once you become an active drowning victim, which means you’re breathing water, you’ve got around 20-60 seconds before you become submerged. As cinema would have you believe, drowning victims can can for help. This is 100% not true, a victim that is actively breathing water does not have enough air in their airway to call for help.

Yes! It’s that fast and quiet. Once submerged, life saving measures are need are are most effective if the victim is reached within 1.5-2 minutes. Can drowning occur in an ocean? Yes. Can drowning occur in a lake? Yes. How about a hot tub? Yes. A bath tub? Yes A bucket? Yes. A toilet? Yes.

Why do I give all those examples, to make a serious point. Water safety is needed for all ages and populations. Simply learning to breath properly in the water, float, and have a progressive kick can save your life. It can save a child’s and even a baby’s life as well. Please be safe around aquatic environments & teach your children water safety.
